Imagination, memory, and travel as it was lived. Stories stay folded until you ask for them.

From the channel, Stone Town looks as if it has already agreed with itself. The white facade, the palms, the green boat with a name worn pale. A person on the seawall is late for something ordinary — tea, a cousin, a key — and the city does not adjust its face. I like photographs that let a town keep its errands.

If the red boat could speak it would not talk about history. It would talk about rope, fuel, and who is owed a favor from yesterday. Empires are loud in guidebooks. Harbors are specific.
